After work today, as much as I just wanted to sit on my couch, I made some progress on the other wall of my entryway. My walls are textured with what I believe is an orange peel texture. I wanted to just put up the stiles and rails of my wainscoting without having to put up a piece of plywood on the wall to create the flat wall (non-textured) effect. So, in order to do that, I had to actually skim coat the lower part of my wall to give it a flat surface. Last night I skim coated it by applying joint compound with a trowel on my wall. Today, I sanded it and placed the rails and stiles of what will be the wainscoting of the remaining wall in my entryway. As you can see from the photo below, the wall to the left of the door has no wall treatment.
This is that same wall with the lower half of it, skim coated. You can kind of see the change in texture. I am thinking about skim coating the walls of my entire house..And that is our dog June. She is part German Shepherd and part Border Collie (in case you are wondering).
